Women's Basketball Fake Story

Just a brief return with an interesting link I found.  The below article came from the The Onion, a satirical news website.  It is basically making fun of the UConn Women's Basketball team and insinuating several things.  First, by having the UConn team complain about losing to another women's team, they are insinuating that the UConn women are actually men.  Second, by being disgusted about losing to a women's team, they are also making the statement that women's basketball is far below men's basketball.  And finally, the last statement says that the team found solace in the fact that the UConn Men's Basketball team would have lost to Notre Dame as well.  This statement is meant to convey that the men's team is so terrible that they could lose to a women's team.

  1. I don't even understand stories like this. I guess my sense of humor is too easily offended. I agree with your analysis of the statements made in the fake story, except I don't know if they were insinuating that the UConn women are actually men or if they are just 'not' women. It is fascinating how in so few words, so many offensive things could be implied.

  2. I have not followed articles in the Onion but someone posted an article about an OSU professor who obsessed about a student evaluation that called him boring. I had read most of the article before I realized it was not serious. I guess if you know that going in, it helps somewhat but why offend if it is not necessary?

  3. As a die hard UCONN fan, I laugh at what is being insinuated in this article. However, I think "journalism" such as that found in the Onion is meant for entertainment value than opinion. That is not to say that these claims are believed, but I cannot personally take this article seriously. Clearly the Huskies are doing something write if someone would take the time to say such things.

  4. I am really glad you posted this link. It honestly makes me a little angry. There are so many problems with what was said it is ridiculous. First I think it is terrible that the UConn womens team is basically saying that they are so much better than a bunch of girls. It just helps condone all of what the media says about how women's sports are not as good as mens. I think that the Uconn team should have more class than this. Then to say that the mens team would have lost. They are insulting their own organization. This is all terrible. It shows a lack of school pride as well as personal respect.

  5. It amazes me that a team that has been so successful , has been under attack whether it is serious or not. the UConn womens' team did what no other team has done and instead of being lauded properly, this has led to argumentative discussions regarding their legitimacy.
